Ever since we upgraded our infrastructure to cloud-based SaaS (way back in 2018), we've seen great returns in our ability to provide a secure, resilient, and reliable environment for our customers. We've been able to meet or exceed all customer requirements for scale, elasticity, availability, analytics, and security using data centers located within each of our customer regions. At the same time, we're always looking for ways to further improve our service in any way we can, so we're making a few changes in hosting for our customers in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.
New hosting location
By October 31, 2023, the xMatters data centers for APAC customers will be located in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia. This means that we will no longer have a data center in Singapore.
What this means for our customers in Australia is assured data sovereignty: all Australian data is staying in Australia. Recent reforms to the Privacy Act 1988 have prompted some customers to inquire about how we plan to ensure continued compliance. With this move, we can confirm to Australian customers that all hosting services are provided within Australian data centers.
For our customers in Singapore and elsewhere in the APAC region, rest assured that the new location will continue to adhere to the strictest international regulations for data security and privacy. For a complete explanation of xMatters compliance standards, see our Trust, Security, and Privacy center.
Zero downtime migration
Migrating data from our current location in Singapore to the new data center in Melbourne will not require any downtime or interruption in service. The migration uses the same processes and procedures as our existing processes for failover. In advance of the migration, services and data will be created and replicated as necessary. The old and new environments will be kept up to date through our continuous delivery processes.
This also means that there is very little preparation required for your instance. The only exception would be for any customers still using IP filtering: you will need to update your lists to ensure that the IP ranges for the new data center are explicitly allowed. These IP ranges will be added to the list of IPs used by xMatters by the end of August 2023, and whatever mechanism or reminder you are using to update your list will be triggered.
If you any questions or concerns about this move, please reach out to Customer Support or your CSM.
