Update 10/08: xMatters for iOS 2.7.1 has provided a simpler workaround to this issue. Just update to the latest version of xMatters app and launch it once after upgrading to iOS 8.
For users still running xMatters for iOS 2.7 or lower, the following steps are still required to re-register for push notifications in iOS 8.

After upgrading your iPhone's operating system to iOS 8, log out of the xMatters app, log back in, and and verify the push notification and custom sound settings.
- Click the gear icon to access your settings page.
- Log out.
- Log back in to the xMatters app.
- Click the gear icon to access your Settings page.
- Verify that push messages are turned on and your custom sound is selected.
