How do I add support for characters other than English?

I have an xMatters server running on an English operating system; how do I add support for characters from other languages?

To add support for characters other than English, you can modify the xMatters coding; the modification process depends on your operating system.

Note: In the following instructions, the "ISO-8859-1" parameter can be changed to reflect the character encoding you want to use; for example, UTF-8 or CP1251.

On Windows

There are two files you must edit to add support for characters from other languages.

  1. On the AlarmPoint Java Client machine, locate the apagent\etc\apagent.conf file.
  2. Within the apagent.conf file, locate the following code section:
# Memory Options
#
# Minimum (-Xms) and maximum (-Xmx) memory for JVM (e.g. 64M == 64 megabytes)
#
-Xms64M
-Xmx128M
  1. Add the following line to the end of the above section:
-Dfile.encoding=ISO-8859-1
  1. On the xMatters web server machine, locate the <xMHOME>\common\node-start.conf file.
  2. Within the node-start.conf file, locate the following code section:
# Memory Options
#
# Minimum (-Xms) and maximum (-Xmx) memory for JVM (e.g. 64M == 64 megabytes)
#
-Xms256M
-Xmx1024M
  1. Add the following line to the end of the above section:
-Dfile.encoding=ISO-8859-1

On Unix/AIX

To enable support for other characters on Unix or AIX systems, start the java process with the following additional Java parameter:

-Dfile.encoding=ISO-8859-1
