Allowing standard users to view reports for their events

Summary

There is a new function in xMatters that enables users to view the Events Activity report for events they have initiated without giving them permission to view events initiated by other users. This article describes how this function will be deployed for new companies and how you can modify existing companies to use this new feature.

Technical Background

xMatters 5.5.57 introduces a new function, View Own Events, which allows users to view Event Activity reports for events they have initiated without giving them permission to view this report for events initiated by other users.

We've updated the default company template to include the View Own Events function for the Standard User role.  When a new company is created in xMatters 5.5.57 (or later), the Standard User role includes the View Own Events function, enabling standard users to see Events Activity reports for events they have initiated.

It's important to understand that the Standard User role is not being modified for existing companies.  In other words, if your company existed prior to 5.5.57, the Standard User role will not pick up the View Own Events function automatically when you upgrade to xMatters 5.5.57; the workflow and user experience for standard users in an existing company will not change.

If your company was created prior to 5.5.57 and you would like standard users to be able to view Event Activity reports for events they have initiated, you can have the View Own Events function added to the Standard User role (or any role). Contact your Client Success Manager to enable this functionality for you.

FAQs

Q: My company has been around for a while. When my xMatters is upgraded to 5.5.57, will my standard users be able to view their own events?

A: No.  Roles for existing companies will not be modified. However, the View Own Events function can be added to the Standard User role by your Client Success Manager.

Q: I'm using xMatters 5.5.57 (or later) and I'm just about to create a new company. Will standard users in this company be able to view their own events?
A: Yes. A new company created from the default company template will have a Standard User role that includes the View Own Events function. However, if your company uses custom roles this functionality may or may not be included, depending on how the role was customized.

Q: I have a custom role, and I'd like it to allow users to view their own events. How do I this?

A: Contact your Client Success Manager and have them add the View Own Events function to the role.
