SMS known issues and resources

Worldwide commercial SMS has been undergoing transformations and regulation changes in several regions. This article will be updated as issues with SMS are identified.

Problem

Japan - Reports of SMS delivery failures

Bulgaria - Only one way SMS is supported

Turkey - Unable to deliver SMS

France - intermittent delivery failures are being seen which seems to be volume dependent

Philippines - messages with unicode characters in the content are seeing a change in the originator number (aka From number) which is causing issues when trying to reply

Mexico - messages going to Telcel users are seeing a change in the originator number (aka From number) which is causing issues when trying to reply

Saudi Arabia - messages are failing to send to end users

Qatar - messages are seeing a change in the originator number (aka From number) which is causing issues when trying to reply

Update

Japan

Regulatory changes within Japan have limited SMS delivery from international numbers.

Bulgaria

Our provider informs us that Bulgaria is currently not supporting two way SMS.

Turkey

Regulatory changes within Turkey have limited SMS delivery from international numbers.

Romania

Some carriers in Romania (such as  DiGi) seem to have issues with SMS responses. The messages do arrive and SMS to Romania one-way is viable. We are investigating options to extend reach. These carriers should work for 2-way SMS:

  • Orange Romania
  • Telekom Romania (f.d. Cosmote)
  • Vodafone Romania

France

An alternate route for France SMS is being explored and tested

Mexico

An alternate route for Mexico SMS is being explored and tested

Qatar

The issue is continuing investigation

Saudi Arabia

An alternate route for Saudi Arabia SMS is being explored
