Kevin Nadeau
Hi,
I was wondering what are the steps to go from 4.1 to 5.1.
Here's our plan.
We are at 4.1 patch 23 already.
We will installed brand new 5.1 servers (news nodes and web server) in a new DB.
We then want to migrate the data from the 4.1 DB to the 5.1 DB.
Do we install and configure everything in 5.1 before doing the migration?
Do we install the nodes and then migrate the data and then configure everything?
Thanks

Hey Kevin, Check out the xm510_installadmin_guide.pdf, specifically the "Upgrading from a previous version" section. That has some important details (don't forget to get the license!) you'll want to check over. This is also a good reference.
But to answer your question, Yes, you will want to do a normal install of 5.1 (with web server and nodes) and do basic configuration to send an email to "bsmith". This just makes sure all the underlying infrastructure works before you go and migrate all your stuff over. Sort of as a baseline for if you have issues.
As Travis mentioned the guide details well the steps to take. The migration process wipes all data from the target system, so I'd probably wait to perform configuration until after you run through that process.
How large is your database? The migration process can take quite a while and consume a large amount of space.
