Question
Can xMatters notifications override an Android device's "Do not disturb" mode? It's important so we don't miss critical alerts!
Known issues: Samsung & OnePlus devices
There are existing issues with Samsung and OnePlus Devices that affect the ability to set and remember the Do Not Disturb settings. These issues are due to OS-specific limitations for which there is no current solution. We have development tasks in place to test for these issues moving forward and we'll update this article once we are able to confirm they are no longer a problem with the app. For more information, see the sections below.

Answer
Yes, you can configure your Android options to allow xMatters notifications to override your device's do-not-disturb settings.
Start by going into your device's Settings > Notifications > Do not disturb > App notifications options. Tap Add apps, select xMatters from the list, and then tap Done. This will add xMatters to the list of apps that are allowed to ignore the Do not disturb option on your phone. (Note: Menus and navigation may differ depending on your specific device and OS version.)
Now open the xMatters app and navigate to Settings > Notification Settings, where you can see options on how to treat High/Medium/Low priority alerts. Open each priority and ensure the Ignore Do not disturb option is enabled.
Also, by digging into each of those settings (tap and hold to open the sub-menu for each option) you can:
- Set up when and how often to repeat notifications
- Override the volume for notifications set in your system settings
- Set a custom sound
- And more!
A note for iOS users: This is also available on iOS devices and we have a separate article that describes the functionality.
Known issue: Samsung
Some Samsung users, such as those with the Galaxy S Series S23 running OneUI 7.0, may run into an issue where the xMatters app is unexpectedly removed from the list of applications allowed to override the Do not disturb setting. This can happen when you turn off Do not disturb, either using the quick settings (swiping down from the top of the screen) or by toggling the option under Settings > Notifications. This is caused by Samsung's implementation of Android and is outside of our control to address.
To fix this, you'll need to reconfigure the allowed apps to include xMatters again.
Known issue: OnePlus
Some OnePlus users, such as those with the OnePlus 12 smartphone running OxygenOS 15.0, may run into an issue where the xMatters app is unexpectedly removed from the list of applications allowed to override the Do not disturb setting. This issue occurs after a device reboot and is caused by a limitation in the vendor's custom implementation of Android and is outside the control of the xMatters app.
To address this, you'll need to reconfigure the allowed apps to include xMatters again.
