When setting up a temporary partial shift absence, the shift shows the user is absent, but covered by themselves for the part of the shift they're available. Why is it showing a user covering themselves?

Because supervisors need to have a clear understanding of who is on call at any given time, when a user sets up a partial shift absence, a design decision was made to display someone as "covering themselves" for the part of the shift that they are available. The replacement user will only show as on call for the time this original user is unavailable, for example:
