Reviewing device details of a user notification failure

Question

To review user devices that received a failed notification, I currently have to export the event log, and then go into each user profile individually to view specific devices. Is there an easier way to do this?

Environment

All versions of xMatters

Answer

Yes. You can use the built-in notification reports to quickly identify failed deliveries and then export those results, including device details, instead of checking each user profile one by one.

Step 1: Find failed notifications

  • In the xMatters web interface, go to Alerts > Notifications.

  • Apply filters such as Delivery Status = Failed (and, if needed, filter by Alert ID or timeframe) to list only failed notification attempts for the event you want to review.

Step 2: Export the failures

  • From the filtered Notifications list, use the Export option to download the results as a CSV file.

Optional: Create a temporary group from failed recipients

If you want to re-notify users whose notifications failed:

  • Use the export of failed notifications to build a list of impacted users and create a temporary group that contains only those users.

  • Go to the Groups page, search for this group, and export it to CSV if you need a consolidated user/device view for further analysis or follow-up.

Note: Because this is a temporary group, we recommend removing it once you have completed your review and any re-notification you plan to send.
