STIR/SHAKEN and "Verified" labels for xMatters phone calls

Question

What is STIR/SHAKEN and how does it impact xMatters?

Environment

  • All version of xMatters
  • Voice notifications

Answer

STIR/SHAKEN is a set of standards enacted by the FCC in the United States meant to reduce telephone SPAM and SCAM calls. These regulations provide the capacity to display incoming calls as "Verified" or "Non-Verified" on a handset.

We have had no reports or other indication of any impact to call delivery due to these regulations.

Verification identifiers are applicable to US area codes and do not impact international telephone numbers. We are working with our providers to register xMatters numbers with the appropriate regulatory bodies to ensure they are marked as "Verified".

If you are receiving calls with a caller ID displaying SPAM please see this article on voice calls and spam for an explanation of why this may be happening.
