Overriding "Do Not Disturb" settings on an iOS mobile device

Question

Can we control whether the mobile app can override an iOS device's mute switch is enabled? Our current setup works fine if we enable DND mode and overwrite it, but if we mute mobile phone (eg if we use physical mute button on iPhone) there's no alert sound anymore.

Environment

  • All versions of xMatters
  • xMatters iOS mobile app version 4.13 and above

Answer

Yes, but it can only be done by the user at device level.

First, make sure you're using xMatters iOS app 4.13 or later and know that this functionality only works for HIGH priority events.

Go to the Settings app on your phone and find xMatters. Under xMatters > Notifications, you can toggle Allow Notifications on and off (users should ensure this is on to enable alerts).

You can then go back into the xMatters app to More > Settings > Settings > Notification Settings, toggle on Critical Alerts for High Priority, and adjust the sound volume.
