If you have an idea for a new feature or a way to make xMatters even better, we'd love to hear it!
But what's even better is when other xMatters users can join in and help explain why your idea is so great (and maybe add their own ideas and improvements) and convince the powers-that-be that they should spend some time building it into the product.
I have an idea!
If you'd like to share your idea or request, just add a new post to this section of the Community and be sure to include the following details:
1. Describe the feature you need
To help us understand the requirements of the feature, describe what it is you're trying to do. What is it that you need this feature to accomplish? What part of the product (web user interface, Flow Designer, flood control, integrations, mobile apps, on-call schedules, etc.) are you having issues with? The more precise you can be with your specific use case and requirements, the easier it will be for us to review and assess your request.
2. Describe why you need this feature
Can you distill the thing you're trying to do down to the underlying business problem? If you've ever heard of the 5 Whys approach, now's an excellent time to apply it and drill into the problem you're trying to solve. The more accurately we can gauge why this feature is important to you, the better we can dig in and try to help.
3. Describe how this impacts you
Does this feature or enhancement affect just you? Individual roles or users? Some groups? Or does this impact everyone on your team or even across the organization? It's important for us to be able to determine not just the scope of a feature request, but how many users or customers a product enhancement will affect.
Now, discuss!
If we decide that your idea is something we want to add to our feature backlog, we'll reach out to you with a reference number that you can use to track the progress of your request through the system.
Keep in mind, of course, that not every request winds up in the product, and those that do might a) take some time, and b) evolve over the course of the their development into something that satisfies the original request and requirements, but doesn't really look all that much like your original concept.
For more information about what happens to product enhancement requests once they're submitted, check out this article about that very subject: Product Enhancements - Post Submission.
