I looked through the documentation on reporting but couldn't find how far back in time xMatters reporting stores events. Is there a limit?

Hi Ian!
From here, under "Show archived events":
You can view events that have been archived. By default, xMatters archives data after seven days, and purges archived data 21 days after archiving it.
If you're curious about whether your system's setting is different than the default, you can file a support request and they'll check it out for you.

Hi Ian! I believe this is linked to your licensing of the xMatters solution. I would recommend contacting support to get details specific for your account. Note that the Events data (runtime) is different than the "archived" data so you can ask for both.
