Message pixel width

I am designing a customer communication and our graphics folks are asking what pixel size they should use for creating the banner that will appear at the top of the message. Does anyone have suggestions for the appropriate height and width for the best display?

    Hi Elisa,

    I discussed this with our usability team and they said it's hard to have an exact answer as it will depend on the screen resolutions of the end users. They're recommending going with something thats 640 pixels wide as that would cover a lot of screen resolutions.
