Is it possible to have a calendar and clock field available as a property type?

Not Yet Reviewed

Within our notifications an example might be to use the Open Date and Time (of an incident) - I would like to use a pre-formatted Calendar and clock available to add onto our forms? At present we have to use a general text field where formatting a date and time onto the form, can have a huge range! Having a calendar and clock option at least the data will be in one format!

  • Hey, Fiona... just to clarify, are you asking for a product enhancement (i.e., a calendar/clock property)? I haven't given this too much deep thought, but if you're looking for a consistent format, maybe a hierarchical list property would work. Can you give us a bit more info in the form of a use case?

  • Hi Cameron - An example might be where we have a form that incident opened details are gathered for the notification including the date and time the incident was opened/noticed. (eg. 23/06/2015 at 05.30am). At the moment its a general text field because there is no other suitable format. However users are typing the date and time in any format they like (no consistency) Using a hierarchical list was not work as the incident date and time could be any time!

  • Well, let's simplify this even further. I was thinking you could create list properties for Hour, Minute, Month, Day etc. But, tell you what - I'm going to send a note to a couple of people who might have a more elegant solution. Stay tuned.

  • I just had a chat with one of our other product managers about this and the short version is that this feature is under consideration. However, it has not been scheduled for development (and might never be). If you're not already doing so, I'd suggest following our News & Updates section to keep up with the latest features.

  • Hi Fiona. We don't have a calendar widget you can add but that sounds like a good idea. Cameron did have a good idea there however, to have 3 drop downs, one for month, one for day and one for year. Maybe a couple more for hours and minutes? It could get a little messy to have 5 or 6 drop downs just to show one field.
Something else you might check out is the "Validate" check box on the Text properties. When you go to edit or add a property, there is a little check box at the bottom that lets you run a regular expression to validate the format of the entry. One such selection is the ISO date/time format (YYYY-MM-DDTHH:mm:ssZ). If a user enters something that doesn't fit the format, they will get a squawk message. Note that you will definitely want to put an example in the Help Text and/or description fields as it doesn't tell the user about the format validation until they try to submit the event.
Google has lots of date/time regular expression patterns, but I'd be happy to help if needed.
    Happy Tuesday!

  • Hey Guys, Can I please re-raise this?

I was about to post the same question based on some work I'm doing with integration builder. Having a date / time input pop up is in my opinion pretty standard and removes the element of typing in the correct format.

This is particularly important to us as we want to then perform some calculations within a script so would prevent NaN errors sneaking in.

    As ever, thanks in advance.

  • Indeed, you can, Dave. I'll ensure the right people in PM are aware (again) of this request. Happy Holidays to you!
