Can the xMatters mobile app override a phone set on silent/vibrate?

Not Yet Reviewed

Is there a way, either within the app or in the iOS/Android OS, to make it so xMatters push notifications override a phone set on silent/vibrate so they'd hear their custom sound?

Thanks,
Andrew

  • Our app cannot override the phone settings. I don't believe it is our limitation - the behavior is not available via the OS. But I think it is hard to blame Apple/Google... it would be chaos if every vendor could determine their messages are so important they can override the OS.

I am an iOS guy, so I can offer one idea. Silent/vibrate can't be overridden but Do Not Disturb can be overridden for phone calls by using Favorites. My only thoughts are that if you aren't using voice, you could define a voice device for your phone, set a priority threshold of "high" and then make sure your urgent messages also have their priority set to high. You could then set a VIP contact in the device, which is the Apple prescribed way of overriding the setting. With that setup your phone would still ring even if you are in Do Not Disturb mode.
